About

Miguel's Portrait, by Clinton Francis.

I am a masters candidate at the McGill University have graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a Masters of Science. The subject of my research touches many fields related to evolutionary biology, but mainly focuses on describing new and innovative methods of studying functions on phylogenetic trees. Officially, the field is mathematics, but it is more of a blend of mathematics, biology, computer science, and paleontology. Deep down, the mathematics involved a mixture of HMM models, Bayesian Statistics, Interpolation, and Pattern Recognition.

I am an avid climber, a photographer, a programmer, a book reader, a snowboarder, a designer, a music lover, a soccer fan, a couch potatoe, a philosopher, and a globe trotter. I continually crave the unknown, the new, and the loneliness of being away. I love to combine adventure and pleasure, and so, more than often, trips become climbing trips. Lately, I have been on a trip to New-Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Paris, and Squamish. Our next trip will be in Bishop, California with my fiancée wife Bonnie.

I am currently working as a Speech Scientist for Nuance Communications. If you’ve never heard of us, check us out at www.nuance.com.

The Black & White photo in this brief biography was originally taken by Clinton Francis of www.leavingbehind.com. Take a look at his site, it’s full of goodies and he is always ready for a new project.
