Summer weekend at the cottage

We took this last weekend off from climbing up north and went to the cottage. I think our bodies appreciated the rest! Time at the cottage consists of card games, board games, lots of swimming, and lots of eating. This time around, it even included a midnight stroll to the pond to take photos of the stars. It was my first time at the pond during the night and it won’t be the last!! Enjoy the photos!

Nous avons pris congé de l’escalade le weekend passé et sommes allé au chalet. Nos corps ont bien apprecié le repos! Le temps au chalet consiste de jeux de cartes, jeux de sociétés, beaucoup de nage, et plein de bouffe. Cette fois-ci, nous avons même été prendre une marche à minuit au lac pour prendre des photos des étoiles. C’était la première fois que j’allais au lac la nuit, et ça ne sera pas la dernière. Enjoy!

I’ve been a little lazy lately with my ‘Photo Mondays’. I’ve been pretty busy organizing the climbing photos that I took at the Halfway Log Dump. In the meantime, here are some shots of the things that are around at the dump. Don’t forget to peek at my flickr set from time to time.

Depuis quelques semaines, je suis assez paresseux avec mon ‘Photo Monday’. Je travailles sur quelques photos d’escalade que j’ai prises à la Halfway Log Dump au cours des dernières semaines. I had to fight my way through a crowd of very excited twelve-year-old girls (and some guys!) to get some of these shots. I really wish I had the privilege to take them from the red carpet, like some of the official photographers; it would have made my life a little easier on Sunday night. It’s pretty incredible how much of an effect these stars have on their fans. I saw with my own eyes (and ears!) the meaning of “Bieber Fever”… it boggles the mind. By the way, I am missing a couple of the names of some of these artists (clearly I was not the target audience of this event). I am hoping someone can help me fill the blanks.

J’ai du me battre contre une foulle de jeune fille de douze ans (et gars!!) ce Dimanche pour pouvoir prendre ces photos. J’aurais bien aimer avoir le prévilège de les prendre directement du tapis rouge, comme certains des photographes, ca aurait rendu ma vie moins compliquée. C’est assez incroyable jusqu’à quel point ces stars là on de l’effet sur les jeunes autour! Malheureusement, je ne connais pas tous les noms des artistes dans les photos, peut-être pourrez-vous m’aider!

The Halfway Log Dump Reopens

A brand new climbing spot has just re-opened in Ontario. After about ten years of being closed, the Halfway Log Dump is finally opened for business. Once again, the OAC was instrumental in the negotiations with the Bruce Peninsula National Park to re-open this amazing bouldering area, situated on the Bruce Peninsula of the Georgian Bay (Lake Huron). Here is what awaits you, if you get a chance to make it up there this summer. Before you head there, please download the guide from the OAC and follow the few rules. Enjoy!!

Un tout nouveau spot de grimpe vient de réouvrir en Ontario. Après avoir été fermé à peu près dix ans, le “HalfWay Log Dump” est finalement accessible pour tous les grimpeurs. Encore une fois, l’OAC a vraiment été un joueur clé dans les négociations avec les gens du Parc National de Bruce Peninsula pour la réouverture de ce spot de bloc, situé sur la Bruce Peninsula de la Baie Georgienne (Lac Huron). Voici ce qui vous attends, si vous decidez d’aller voir ce superbe spot de bloc cet été. Avant d’y aller, downloader le topo de l’OAC et suivez les quelques règles.

Photo Monday: Flora and Fauna of the Dump

We went to a bouldering crag called the “Halfway Log Dump” this weekend. It’s an incredible lake-side area of the Bruce Peninsula (Georgian Bay, Lake Huron) that has recently been re-opened — thanks to the hard-working folks of the OAC. Here is a collection of the friends we made there over the past couple of days. (Actual shots of the climbing and scenery are coming this week!) Enjoy.

Nous sommes allés grimper à un spot qu’y s’apelle “Halfway Log Dump” ce weekend. C’est un site de grimpe sur le bord du grand Lac Huron, dans la baie Georgienne sur la “Bruce Peninsula”. Le site vient tout juste de ré-ouvrir grâce aux nombreux efforts de l’OAC. Voici une collection des petits amis que nous avons rencontrer lors de notre fin de semaine. Les photos de l’endroit en tant que tel s’en viennent bientôt.

Photo Monday: Fast Car

An example of a technique called “panning”. The goal of this method is to use a slow shutter speed to give an idea of how fast an object is moving. It’s mostly used in F1 racing photography. The difficulty, of course, is to blur everything in the picture while keeping the subject in focus.

Voici un exemple d’une technique apellée “panning”. Le but de cette méthode est de laisser l’objectif de la caméra ouvert assez longtemps pour donner une idée de la vitesse à laquelle un objet bouge. C’est souvent utilié en photo de formule un. La difficulté, évidemment, est de garder l’objet en focus tout en brouillant le reste de l’image.

Over the past weekend, we had the chance to hold the National Bouldering Championships at Joe Rockhead’s in Toronto. With the National Bouldering Championships this weekend, I didn’t have time to do any photo experiments. I did have the opportunity to take a ton of shots during the comp, which I will post on the site this week. So, for this week’s Photo Monday (i know it’s Tuesday!), I thought I would share more photos from my Vancouver trip. This time around, there are some of my favourite bouldering photos. Avec les Championnats Nationaux de bloc en fin de semaine, je n’ai vriament pas eu le temps de faire des expériences de photos. Par contre, j’ai eu la chance de pouvoir prendre plein de photos de la compétition, que je vais vous montrer cette semaine, lorsque j’aurais eu le temps de les éditer. Donc, pour le Photo Monday de cette semaine, j’ai pensé vous partager quelques photos de mon voyage à Vancouver (encore!). Cette fois-ci, ce sont mes photos préférés de grimpe.
