Great video of Colin Powell Endorsing Obama

It’s refreshing to see a well structured and intelligible interview with a politician during this whole campaign. it’s nice to see that even a republican can see how cheap some of the comments from their party have been. Not to mention that they’ve blatantly lied on so many things about Obama. I mean, to even hint at the fact that Obama may be a terrorist… I mean please! That is just not the way Americans (or anybody) should act. Not with the many ways we have to inform ourselves these days. It sometimes seems like we are watching kids at elementary school… Not that it matters a whole lot, being a Canadian and all, but I would totally endorse Obama as well! Good for Powell to say so on National TV. Go and vote for Obama!

Google’s Earth Hour 2008

So I first planned on taking pictures of Toronto’s earth hour, and somehow I forgot to. Well, actually, I started by taking a video, which didn’t turn out very nicely, and kind of forgot to take a photo of the skyline in the end. It would have been cool to show the “before” and “after” shots, kind of like the ones I’ve seen on the blog of earthhour.org. I have to say that we didn’t notice a huge difference between the “on/off” states of the city. I mean, we could spot some building that had turned off their lights completely, for example Bank of Montreal was completely out, which is probably the second biggest/tallest building downtown Toronto! I would give Toronto’s Earth Hour a 6 out of 10 probably. Curious to know how well other cities have done.

As for us, I am happy to report that we did turn off all our lights and most of our electronics in the house for the whole hour. However, I must admit that at one point I did cheat and turn on my laptop (using the battery only!) to check something online (okay… my router was using electicity in I guess…), which made me discover just how cool and fun the people at Google are. Check out there version of the earth hour:

Turn off your lights, make a difference

On March 29th, the organizers of Earth hour 2008 are simply asking you to turn off your lights, appliances, heating, tv, radio, computer, etc for an hour. One simple hour.

68,506 individuals and 2270 businesses registered their participation on the Earth Hour website. [...] According to statistics provided by Energy Australia, the event reduced electricity consumption during the hour by 10.2%, and a poll conducted by AMR Interactive estimates that 57% of Sydney’s population participated.

This year the event seems to have reached even more people. Even Toronto agreed to participate in this incredibly simple, yet powerful idea. Let’s all get together to show that we care and want to make a difference. On March 29th 2008, I know I’ll be turning off my lights. Join us!

The Story of Stuff

Someone showed me this awesome video, it’s actually part of a whole site, like David Suzuki’s Nature Challenge, on how to live green and how to make a real difference in this increasingly consumerist society.

Look at the teaser bellow, or simply go to http://www.storyofstuff.com/ to check the whole video. It’s about 20 minutes long but it’ll make you think a lot. Seriously, check it out.

Canada’s Polar Bears Need Our Help

Polar Bears across the world are facing problems due to climate changes and poor regulations. You would think that Canada, being such a “good” country, would do something about their bear population. Unfortunately, it isn’t so, and Canada, like most other countries around the polar caps are not concerned at all about their survival. Check out this youtube video from the Nature Challenge Crew, and while you are at it, visit David Suzuki’s Nature Challenge site to get more ideas on how you can help. You can also get their full report in PDF format (in French too).
