IFSC World Cup, Canmore 2011: Qualifiers

The qualifiers were very set at the Canmore World Cup, especially for the women. It generally separated the competitors very well set and gave us a great show. In my opinion, the best part of the qualifiers was when Stacey gave about 10 tries on problem #5 to finally finish it when the buzzer was going off (see mid-air picture below). Good stuff Stacey! I am now preparing the finals; should be ready very soon (maybe Sunday?).

La qualification de la Coupe du Monde de Canmore était vraiment bien setter, surtout pour les femmes. Les problèmes ont assez bien separés les compétiteurs et nous ont donnés un très bon spectacle! D’après-moi, la meilleure partie des qualifs était quand Stacey à donné à peu près 10 essais sur le problème #5 pour finalement réussir juste au moment ou le temps allait finir (voir la photo en bas!). Je prépares maintenant les photos des finales; ça devrait être pret bientôt (peut-être dimanche?).

Tour de Bloc 8: Nationals at Climber’s Rock

Once again, the culmination of the Tour de Bloc was held out here in the Toronto region. This time around Burlington gym Climber’s Rock was the host for the biggest climbing event in Canada (yet!)! This year’s field was very impressive and the largest ever for Nationals, including about 60 Men competitors and 31 Women open competitors! Because some strong Europeans and Americans showed up, they ended up taking 13 women and 14 men to the final round. Super strong field on both sides! Very impressive.

Tour de Bloc 8: Boulderz

Boulderz was the host of the fourth competition in the Eastern division this year. Although the gym is quite a bit smaller than other venues, they managed to create space by splitting off the climbers into three groups (two on Saturday and one on Sunday). Andrew and his team of setters (Chris Muzilla, Tony Berlier and Aaron Eden) did a great job at putting up problems for both qualifiers and finals. Even though two of the men’s final problems, #2 and #4, were maybe slightly too hard, they still made for a great show! More importantly, they also seperated the finalists pretty well. Congrats to TJ Quan for winning his first ever Tour de Bloc competition! Once again, team Allez Up did very well!

La quatrième compétition de l’Est était à Boulderz la semaine passée. Malgré le fait que le centre d’escalade est plutot petit, les organisateurs ont quand même réussis à créer de l’espace en séparant les compétiteurs en trois groupes (deux le Samedi et un le Dimanche). Andrewet son équipe d’ouvreurs (Chris Muzilla, Tony Berlier and Aaron Eden) ont fait un super bon travail avec les blocs de qualifs et les blocs de finales. Malheureusement, deux des problèmes de finale des hommes étaient un peu trop difficile (#2 et #4), mais ils étaient quand même super intéressant à regarder! Ils ont aussi fait une très bonne séparation des finalistes. Je me dois de féliciter TJ Quan pour sa toute première victoire dans un Tour de Bloc! Et encore une fois, le team Allez Up a très bien réussi la fin de semaine passée!

Summer weekend at the cottage

We took this last weekend off from climbing up north and went to the cottage. I think our bodies appreciated the rest! Time at the cottage consists of card games, board games, lots of swimming, and lots of eating. This time around, it even included a midnight stroll to the pond to take photos of the stars. It was my first time at the pond during the night and it won’t be the last!! Enjoy the photos!

Nous avons pris congé de l’escalade le weekend passé et sommes allé au chalet. Nos corps ont bien apprecié le repos! Le temps au chalet consiste de jeux de cartes, jeux de sociétés, beaucoup de nage, et plein de bouffe. Cette fois-ci, nous avons même été prendre une marche à minuit au lac pour prendre des photos des étoiles. C’était la première fois que j’allais au lac la nuit, et ça ne sera pas la dernière. Enjoy!

Photo Monday: Flora and Fauna of the Dump

We went to a bouldering crag called the “Halfway Log Dump” this weekend. It’s an incredible lake-side area of the Bruce Peninsula (Georgian Bay, Lake Huron) that has recently been re-opened — thanks to the hard-working folks of the OAC. Here is a collection of the friends we made there over the past couple of days. (Actual shots of the climbing and scenery are coming this week!) Enjoy.

Nous sommes allés grimper à un spot qu’y s’apelle “Halfway Log Dump” ce weekend. C’est un site de grimpe sur le bord du grand Lac Huron, dans la baie Georgienne sur la “Bruce Peninsula”. Le site vient tout juste de ré-ouvrir grâce aux nombreux efforts de l’OAC. Voici une collection des petits amis que nous avons rencontrer lors de notre fin de semaine. Les photos de l’endroit en tant que tel s’en viennent bientôt.
