In my case, the protagonist was the poor little Pepper shaker that we bought on our trip to Thailand (that’s right Jason!) and the superior force was the espresso tamper that went flying out of my hands and chopped off both its arms at once… there goes 30 baht…

Last week I learned about this motivational poster produced in 1939 by the Birtish Government! I thought I would share it with you guys. Doesn’t it just sum up beautifully the gentlemanship of the Englishman ?! It’s a brilliant poster with great design. It says so much, with so little. Apparently, it was intended to be used if the Nazis ever took control of the country during the war, but it was never displayed to the public (Read more about it here). Later found in 2000… it has now, obviously, been used in a ton of advertisements worldwide.

This has got to be my favourite “National Film Board” movie of all time. What was meant as a somewhat serious short film on common domestic accidents and how to prevent them has quickly became our favourite funny movie as kids. To be fair, they do also advertise the movie as an hilarious documentary on their website.

Here is a snippet from the ONF:

This hilarious animated film communicates over forty safety tips for homes with infants and young children. The film’s hero is a very earnest, somewhat pompous, but endearing dog called Wally. A “professional” in home safety, Wally is assigned to a house with an infant whose parents have little safety consciousness. Accidents and near-accidents succeed each other with lightning speed, constantly putting Wally to the test. This comic film will help viewers of all ages become “home-safety smart.” For parents, babysitters, and the elementary school classroom.

Finally, I found out that you can get your very own copy of this classic movie on the ONF website. It is part of the movie “Attention, les enfants!”, which sells for about 20$ on their website. Unfortunately, it is a VHS-only movie. So no DVDs… Check out the trailer from the movie! Too funny! All of the texts I linked to can be found in English also.

i just finished reading this book and i’m already looking into buying their next book “Why Do Men Fall Asleep After Sex?”. it was a very interesting book, full of answers and simple facts on many questions you have asked yourself at least once but never bothered finding out. the subtitle is spot on: “Hundreds of Questions You’d Only Ask a Doctor After Your Third Martini”.

Leyner is a writer, he can be spotted in the New Yorker and GQ, and Golberg is a doctor in New-York. you’ll love the mix of humor and scientific explanations on questions such as: “why do old ladies grow beards?”, “does coffee stunt your growth?”, and “can lip balm be addictive?”. when the authors write “we expect it to be toilet reading”, they are probably right, but i still think that it makes for a very entertaining read.

John sent us this really funny joke this weekend. I feel like i’ve heard it before, but it’s just too good not to share. Enjoy:

A Dutchman walks into a bank in Toronto and asks for the loan officer. He tells the loan officer that he is going to Holland on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer tells him that the bank will need some form of security for the loan, so the Dutchman hands over the keys to a new Ferrari parked on the street in front of the bank. He produces the title and everything checks out. The loan officer agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank’s president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the Dutchman for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drives the Ferrari into the bank’s underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the Dutchman returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, “Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi millionaire. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000? The Dutchman replies: “Where else in Toronto can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?

I recently stumbled across this very interesting joke by journalist Greg Palast. You should read the entire original article, but let me share this quote with you:

So, Osama Walks into This Bar, See? and Bush says, “Whad’l’ya have, pardner?” and Osama says, “Well, George, what are you serving today?” and Bush says, “Fear,” and Osama shouts, “Fear for everybody!” and George pours it on for the crowd. Then the presidential bartender says, “Hey, who’s buying?” and Osama points a thumb at the crowd sucking down their brew. “They are,” he says. And the two of them share a quiet laugh.
